The Tbilisi Court of Appeals upheld the decision of the first instance court against the former Minister of Justice, Zurab Adeishvili, and the former chairman of the Penitentiary Department of the Ministry of Penitentiary and Legal Aid, David Chakua, who stand accused in the so-called prison footage case.
Both Adeishvili and Chakua were sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison.
Besides, they were also fined GEL 5000 – 5000 and were also deprived of the right to hold a position in the public service for 2 years and 3 months.
The prosecution demanded stricter punishment, while the defense demanded an acquittal of the convicts.
The convicts are charged with organizing humiliating and inhuman treatment of prisoners, abuse of official authority, organizing falsification of evidence in a criminal case, influencing a witness and organizing a crime provocation.
