Parliament starts hearing the Public Defender candidates

The Parliament starts hearing the candidates for Public Defender. The Human Rights Committee will start hearing candidates today. The process will continue in the Parliament until October 29.

Candidates’ hearings will take place in alphabetical order - Ana Abashidze, Marika Arevadze and Giorgi Burjanadze will be heard today.

19 applications for the position of Ombudsman were submitted to the legislature. The Parliament will have to hear all 19 candidates, because the political group Citizens has decided to nominate all the applicants.

The future Ombudsman should be elected for a term of 6 years, with a 90-vote quorum.
