Georgia is committed to the European choice, it is our historical and generational choice. Such a statement made the Prime Minister of Georgia after the meeting with European Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi.
“I would like to say that the visit of Olivér Várhelyi is the first visit after the European Council made a historic decision in June, when Georgia received a European perspective. This is a great motivation and responsibility for us. We have understood it well, and it is with this responsibility and spirit that we are carefully working on the implementation of the 12 recommendations.
Mr. Commissioner, as you know, Georgia is committed to the European choice. It is our historical and generational choice and dream that we become a full and worthy member of the European family. We are doing our best on this path.
All tangible results on the European path after 2012 are the merit of our Government, the ruling party - be it the association agreement, the free trade agreement, the visa-free regime and now the European perspective. We brought all this for our people and country and it was not accidental. It was preceded by a lot of hard work done by our team.
We also remind you that before 2012 we lived under the conditions of a dictatorial and autocratic regime, where there were no signs of democracy - neither free media nor free courts. The country started the process 3 years late. The association negotiations and visa-free regime started during our ruling. We achieved tangible results in a short period of time, which makes Georgia one of the leading countries in the Eastern European Partnership group.
We also understand very well what reality we have to live in - this is occupation, 20% of our territory is occupied and this is a big challenge for our people. Our main task is to de-occupy the country in a peaceful way and make our country united again.
I would like to thank the EU Monitoring Mission, which is actively involved in this process. I also want to thank you and the relevant services of the European Commission, which are actively involved in the process of implementing the 12 recommendations. They are helping us to ensure that Georgia fulfills the 12 recommendations in the shortest possible time and that no questions remain unanswered. I am sure that we will implement these 12 recommendations very soon”, - said Irakli Garibashvili.
