The Parliament heard the Justice Minister at the last plenary of the autumn session

The last plenary of the autumn session was dedicated to the hearing of the Justice Minister, Rati Bregadze within the Ministerial Hour, reporting about the activities upheld by the Ministry and the further plans.

The Minister started the official part of his speech with words of gratitude and thanked the Parliament for the legal initiatives and the support expressed to the Ministry.

When speaking about the activity, the reporter dwelt on the importance of the provision of high-quality services to the population and the activity of the Public Service Halls and Public Centers.

He emphasized the system land registration project, the opening of the Hologram Museum of History of Law for the persons interested in the subject, and the novelties inculcated in the penitential system.

“None of the facts of violence by the penitentiary officers against the inmates has been detected, while the inhuman treatment was a system problem in 2011. We constantly strive to create dignified working conditions for our officers because the system is based on these people. Let me assure you that it is very hard work, especially under the pandemic, when our officers practically moved to live in the Department. These people deserve gratitude and some disgusting words that are expressed toward these people and their families are not admissible. They need to know that they can always count on our strong support”, - said the Minister and spoke about the changes planned in the penitentiary system; as he noted, all types of rendezvous shall become free.

“Except the high-risk convicts, all other inmates will enjoy the opportunity to obtain higher education. We increase the number and duration of the phone calls and equalize the living conditions for the convicts and accused persons. All units of the Department will have a special status, which will equalize the officers and improve their conditions. We also extend the list of persons with special titles. The officers, other than their official and rank salaries, will have the supplements according to their experience, which will constitute significant support to their families”, - he noted.

The Minister emphasized the directions of international cooperation and dwelt on the projects developed in cooperation with the Defense and Education Ministries. According to him, the Ministry adheres to the plan and strategy and undertakes reforms that are oriented to the better development of the country.

“I can’t help taking this advantage and thank the officers of the Ministry who on a daily basis serve bona fide for our country. I believe, we have immense success ahead”, - he ended his report.

Pursuant to the Rules of Procedure, the Ministerial Hour was resumed with the questions of MPs.
