The Special Investigation Service arrested one person in Batumi for violent persecution of a member of the United National Movement Giorgi Kirtadze, because of his political activities.

Based on the evidence obtained due to the operational and investigative actions carried out within the shortest period of time, citizen I.S., born in 1988 was arrested as an accused person for the crime committed under Article 156, Part 2, Paragraph “a” of the Criminal Code of Georgia (violent persecution of person because of his political activities).

The investigation established that on December 19, 2022, near the Gorgasali Str 127 (Batumi) the accused approached Giorgi Kirtadze during the live broadcasting on “Formula TV” and expressed dissatisfaction with Kirtadze’s political activity. After which I.S. started throwing eggs toward Giorgi Kirtadze, addressed aggressively, and verbally insulted him. The accused person also slapped him in the face.

The arrested person will be charged for a crime within the defined period. The crime shall be punished with imprisonment for a term of up to three years.
