The members of the Parliamentary Trust Group heard Shalva Lomidze, the head of the Georgian Intelligence Service, who presented the 2022 report on the service’s activities.

The head of the intelligence service spoke about the measures taken in terms of strengthening the operational and institutional capabilities of the service.

“The head of the Intelligence Service discussed the activities carried out by the local and regional security environment, including gathering information regarding the threats and challenges facing the country in advance, analysis, forecasting the potential development of events in various scenarios, and providing the necessary information to the relevant decision-makers. Shalva Lomidze also discussed the measures taken to neutralize, prevent, and lessen the detrimental effects of operations against Georgia during the meeting”, - said Irakli Beraia.

The purpose of the Trust Group, which was established under the Defense and Security Committee of the Parliament, is to monitor the covert operations and special initiatives of the organizations working in the defense and security sector.

The Trust Group reviews the covert annual reports of the aforementioned agencies by no later than April 15 and holds hearings on various topics related to national security and defense throughout the year.
