We did not have an easy discussion with the Speaker of the Parliament. Such a statement made today Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia after the meeting held with Shalva Papuashvili.
“We just had a very important meeting. I was accompanied by all the ambassadors of EU member states who were in Tbilisi. We were invited by the Speaker of the Parliament to exchange views on the initiative on “foreign agents”.
We had a very frank, open exchange of views with the Speaker and the 2 Chairmen of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament, going deep into the details.
It was not an easy discussion. From our side, we stated very clearly that this initiative does not correspond to the norms and values of the European Union, and we said once again that this initiative contradicts at least 2 points out of 12, which were handed over to Georgia in June of the previous year. We heard arguments from the Chairman about the need to adopt this law.
The conversation will continue. As I understand, this is not even a draft law, it is only an initiative, and, of course, from our side, we will observe very closely how this initiative will develop and we hope that this initiative will not become a law”, - said Pawel Herczynski.
