Prime Minister and President of European Olympic Committees discuss preparations for 2025 Winter Youth Olympics Festival

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with Spyros Capralos, President of the European Olympic Committees (EOC).

The ongoing Freestyle Ski, Snowboarding and Freeski World Championships in Bakuriani were discussed at the meeting. It was noted that the championships are a significant event for Georgia, and the experience gained from hosting it will be just as important for the 2025 Winter Youth Olympics Festival in Georgia that will bring together about 1,700 athletes, coaches, referees, and medical personnel from around the globe.

“Georgia has now taken the task to organize the Youth Olympics Festival in 2025. The whole country is committed. The Prime Minister is committed. He loves sport, and he has done a lot for sport. And he will continue doing a lot more.

“But also, the Organizing Committee, the local authorities, and the National Olympic Committee of Georgia are all together to bring the whole of Europe here in Bakuriani and Tbilisi. And I am sure that there are going to be fantastic games. The best athletes of Europe from 14 to 18 years old will come here to Georgia. They will compete in a nice and normal competition. In addition to that there is going to be direct live streaming of all the events. That will give a fantastic opportunity for Georgia to be seen in every European house. And that, I am sure, will help tremendously the promotion of Georgia, the promotion of tourism and the beauties of your country,” the EOC President said.

It was emphasized that the festival is a unique opportunity for Georgia to showcase its culture and set up a platform for young athletes to compete on an international level.

Special attention was paid to the topic of preparing infrastructure for the 2025 Winter Youth Olympics Festival. It was pointed out that the infrastructural projects implemented within the scope of the Youth Olympics Festival will have a positive long-term impact on winter sports in Georgia.

It was underlined that, within the scope of the Winter Youth Olympics Festival, Georgian athletes will have an opportunity to compete in their own country, which will prove to be a good experience toward helping them in their future athletic endeavors.
