Head of the State Security Service held meeting with the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia

Head of the State Security Service of Georgia Grigol Liluashvili held meeting with the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia, the Co-chair of Geneva International Discussions -Toivo Klaar.

Current situation in the occupied territories and across the occupation line, as well as challenges in the security field have been discussed. Attention has been given to the matter of so-called illegal borderization process.

Talks have been held on the most complicated challenges developed in the region and their possible effects both in global, as well as regional security contexts.

Particular attention has been attached to the matter of unconditional release of the citizens of Georgia serving illegal imprisonment in the occupied territories.

Active participation and efforts made by Toivo Klaar and Co-chairs of Geneva International Discussions have been highlighted. Particular role of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) with regard to ensuring stability across the occupation line, as well as urgent necessity of its unrestricted access to the occupied territories in compliance with its mandate, have been stressed.

Particular attention has been paid to necessity of efficient application and enhancement of existing formats of negotiation - Geneva International Discussions and the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) meetings, in particular.
