Irakli Garibashvili meets Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with James Cleverly, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom.

In the meeting at the Government Administration, focus was made on the strategic partnership and high-level political dialogue between Georgia and the UK. As Irakli Garibashvili pointed out, James Cleverly’s visit to Georgia demonstrates the positive dynamic in the relations between the two countries.

The Georgia-UK Wardrop Strategic Dialogue-which encompasses a whole range of cooperation between the two countries and further bolsters the coordination of strategic partnership and cooperation-was discussed at the meeting. Emphasis was placed on the importance of tapping into the full potential of cooperation across a variety of areas.

The Head of Government thanked James Cleverly for the UK’s firm support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and for contributing to the empowerment of state institutions and democratic development.

The discussed topics included the regional and global security environment and challenges. Georgia’s considerable role in strengthening the Black Sea Region’s security was underlined.

The meeting was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Georgia, Mark Clayton, the Deputy Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Justin McKenzie Smith, the Foreign Minister of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, the Head of the Government Administration, Revaz Javelidze, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Sophie Katsarava.
