I hope that Georgia will be granted the candidate status - Pawel Herczynski

I hope that Georgia will be granted the candidate status. Such a statement made today the European Union Ambassador to Georgia.

“I am glad to be in Georgia at this truly historic moment - Georgia has decided to apply for membership in the European Union. 27 member states of the European Union decided to give Georgia a European perspective. Work is underway to implement 12 priorities. The process is still ongoing and we will assess progress at the end of this year and the 27 member states will decide on next steps in December.

I hope this will be a positive decision. I hope that Georgia will be granted candidate status, but this is not the end of the road, even if it happens, it will be another step towards joining the EU. There will be many more steps to take. We, the EU Delegation, are here to guide Georgia on its way to joining the European Union. I sincerely hope that Georgia will become a member of the European Union and this will bring many benefits to Georgia.

EU membership means stability, it means peace, prosperity, and improved living standards. So we are working in this direction, but it requires national accord, it requires all national forces to work together in the spirit of compromise, in the spirit of inclusiveness, in the spirit of constructiveness. So it"s a work in progress and we"ll see. The decision will depend on the progress achieved by Georgia”, - said Pawel Herczynski.
