Persons recognized as oligarchs by the Anti-Corruption Bureau will no longer be prohibited from financing political parties and demonstrations. Such a statement made the Chairman of the Legal Affairs Committee at the discussion of the amended version of the Draft Law on De-oligarchization.
“Articles 10 - 11 of the draft law were related to the ban on the financing of political parties, elections or other campaigns and demonstrations. Here, the Venice Commission saw the possible risks of violation of rights, that if the oligarchs were prohibited from this right, it would be an improper restriction of the right.
Therefore, we removed the mentioned issue from the draft altogether. In other words, if a person is known as an oligarch, it will be possible to implement the relevant financing and there will be no restrictions in this direction”, - said Anri Okhanashvili.
