Regional Units of the Special Investigation Service opened in Zugdidi and Telavi

Within the framework of strengthening and institutional development of the Special Investigation Service, to ensure geographical access and effective investigation, Regional Units opened in Zugdidi and Telavi.

Special Investigation Service investigates a number of important cases of ill-treatment committed by public officials, violent crimes committed by law-enforcement officers and crimes against human rights and freedoms. Challenges faced by the investigation service related to the conduct of objective, speedy and effective investigations require adequate mobility, implementation of investigative, procedural, and operative functions smoothly, without any obstacles. To support this process, the service opened new offices in the regions of Kakheti and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti.

The infrastructure of the regional units is fully aligned with contemporary standards and is adapted for persons with disabilities. The office is provided with all the infrastructure that an investigative agency needs, including interview and line-up rooms. Child-friendly areas will be arranged at the offices. They will also be equipped with a videoconferencing system allowing Service employees in different regions to conduct and/or attend remote working meetings using high-quality modern technologies.

Since the establishment of new offices, the Service operates nationwide through offices in Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Batumi, Zugdidi and Telavi, which provide relevant assistance to more citizens.

The Service actively continues the institutional development process, the next regional office will be launched in Rustavi next year.
