It could have been our mistake, not a deal, said MP Nika Machutadze, who is one of those who supported the 3 non-judge members elected to the Supreme Council of Justice.
“There was a 3-to-2 formula, and there was also a 4-to-1 formula, which, by the way, was the most relevant. In addition, in the 12 points of the European recommendations, there was an issue of solving this topic by consensus. To be honest, we knew that negotiations were going on, but our political movement was somehow not involved in these negotiations. We knew that the issue had to go in this direction. We have discussed certain acceptable candidates together with our colleagues.
I realize that this position of ours could be a kind of communication problem on the opposition side. There was no such agreement and no one told us that we were not voting for anyone - we were neither warned nor informed about it!
As soon as the story broke out in the Parliament and we saw that the process was not agreed upon and the general opinion of the opposition was different, we immediately stopped the process and left the plenary session hall”, - said Nika Machutadze.
