Shalva Papuashvili hosted the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie

The Speaker of the Parliament hosted the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (APF), Francis Drouin and the Delegation of the Assembly.

The guests had a tour in Zviad Gamsakhurdia Plenary Hall. Shalva Papuashvili provided information on Georgian parliamentarism and the history of the Parliament Palace and introduced the structure and activity of the supreme legislative body.

“In 1918, Georgia declared independence and held elections in 1010. Georgia was one of the first countries in Europe to hold universal elections, providing suffrage to women and electing five women members of parliament. Georgia was the second European country after Finland electing women to the Parliament. So, democracy and equality are deeply rooted in the history of Georgia and Georgia is one of the pioneers in this regard”, - said the Speaker.

APF members also visited the Ekvtime Takaishvili Museum of Georgian Parliamentarism.
