The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia met with his Lithuanian counterpart within the framework of the NATO summit in Vilnius.
Ilia Darchiashvili thanked Gabrielius Landsbergis for organizing and hosting the summit at high level. The importance of Georgia’s participation in the Vilnius Summit of NATO and Lithuania’s support in this regard was also emphasized. It was highlighted that the summit will be productive, both from the standpoint of Georgia"s integration with NATO, as well as in terms of the Alliance’s strong support for Georgia.
The sides focused on the successful cooperation between the two countries in both bilateral and multilateral formats and the existing potential for the further development of partner relations.
The ministers spoke about important steps taken by Georgia on the path of European and Euro-Atlantic integration. The conversation also focused on Georgia’s efforts to obtain the EU candidate status and the progress on implementation of 12 recommendations. In light of NATO integration, special attention was paid to the implementation of the decisions made at the Madrid Summit. In addition, the importance of Lithuania’s support for the success of Georgia’s EU and NATO integration process was emphasized.
Talking points included the security environment in the region and the situation created in the occupied territories of Georgia.
Minister Darchiashvili thanked Lithuania for its steadfast support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The ministers noted the importance of strengthening ties between the two countries and intensifying high-level visits.
