U.S. Department of Justice publishes information on activities of Mikheil Saakashvili’s lobbyists

U.S. Department of Justice published information about the activities of lobbying companies hired by Mikheil Saakashvili and his mother Giuli Alasania.

Based on the document, Akerman LLP carried out different activities during a 6-month period, among them:

“Telephone calls and emails with medical experts, Georgian lawyers, and consultants, concerning Mr. Saakashvili’s medical condition; Work with medical experts to prepare and comment on their supplemental and rebuttal reports for submission to the Georgian court; Drafting proposed resolutions for the EU Parliament; Conference call with Reuters concerning lobbying and diplomatic efforts aimed at obtaining the release of Mr. Saakashvili from prison for life-saving treatment; Preparation for and interview of Massimo D’Angelo by CNN reporter Erin Burnett;

Communications with the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture to enlist its help; Strategy for and preparation of op-ed concerning Mr. Saakashvili’s situation; Review video footage of Georgian police torturing Mr. Saakashvili and strategy and communications for disseminating footage to the public; Communications with the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture to enlist its help;

Strategy for and preparation of emergency application to the European Court of Human Rights, and work on supporting brief; Communications concerning inclusion of Mr. Saakashvili’s case in the Magnitsky List and preparation of text and materials;

Communications with official of U.S. embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia, and with officials in Poland, in effort to allow Mr. Saakashvili to be treated by Polish physicians; Efforts to arrange meeting with current president of Georgia during his visit to New York, to seek pardon of Mr. Saakashvili”.
