Establishing a strategic partnership with China was part of a foreign-policy-related resolution adopted by Parliament in December 2020. Such a statement made today the Chairman of the Parliament.
“For Georgia, as a country playing the role of the middle corridor, partnership with China is of crucial importance.
Georgia is one of the unique countries because it has a free trade agreement with the European Union and China at the same time.
Partnership with China is one of the most important foreign-political achievements of Irakli Gharibashvili’s government. As for the deepening of the relationship, it was part of both the foreign policy resolution of the Parliament and the Government’s foreign policy strategy.
Deepening relations with China was our goal and it is important that we achieved this goal. When we talk about strengthening the role of Georgia as a middle corridor, China is of decisive importance here. When it comes to transporting various goods, China is the country that can fill this transport corridor.
Various opposition politicians or newly hatched China experts, who have not read a single article about China before, talk about this agreement. If these people do not understand the importance of strategic partnership, they should not be in politics. Due to the fact that they have neither knowledge nor competence, they struggle with each sentence.
We saw how the Government of Georgia was received in China. By the way, we have a free trade agreement with China. In this regard, we are one of the unique countries, because we have a free trade agreement with both the European Union and China at the same time”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.
