In the Council of Europe, the UNM supported resolution accusing the Georgian side of renewing the war - Papuashvili

In the resolution on the August 2008 war, which was supported by the [United] National Movement, it is written that on August 7, the Georgian side started a new phase of the armed conflict. Such a statement made today the Chairman of the Parliament.

“First of all, in this resolution, which was supported by the UNM in the European Council, it is written that on August 7, 2008, the Georgian side started a new phase of the armed conflict. With this, they supported accusing the Georgian side of renewing the war. That’s why it was hidden from the public for a long time, although it was revealed and everyone knows it well.

As for the claim, whether this record was initiated by Russia or someone else, it is even worse if it was not Russia, and the UNM itself got involved in the drafting of this project and were the initiators of this record. Therefore, they must answer who was the initiator of this record.

As for the support, it should be underlined once again that the UNM tried to justify its support by pretending that the resolution would fail because of the other good records that were included, which is a lie. The majority was enough to support this resolution, but the Georgian state and its representatives should not have been involved in supporting such a record”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.
