President’s decision regarding the pardon is not subject to any pressure or recommendations – President’s Administration

The Administration of the President of Georgia issued the statement, responding to the information that Salome Zourabichvili’s advisor promised the brother of one of the persons convicted of gang violence in the Namakhvani Hydro Power Plant case to study the case for the purpose of pardoning.

“The Administration of the President responds to the false reports regarding the pardon, the use of the discretionary right of the President.

We clarify and confirm that the President of Georgia makes a decision regarding the pardon personally, based on the consideration of the case.

As we have repeatedly emphasized, the President’s decision regarding the pardon is not subject to any pressure or recommendations. This decision is entirely the responsibility of the President and is not distributed to her advisers or any representative of the Administration.

It is clear that the spread of disinformation has nothing to do with the use of the discretionary power of the President, and is aimed at discrediting the President. All this represents a form of fight against the President.

As for those who are waiting for pardon, we declare once again that neither preliminary information nor any promises regarding pardon is issued from the Administration of the President”, - reads the statement.
