It would be better if the European Union had a clearer and time-specific plan for the accession of specific countries. Such a statement made today the Chairman of the Georgian Dream.
“Charles Michel named a specific year, 2030 [in terms of EU enlargement]. This gave reason for optimism, at least for the Balkan countries. You know that Macedonia has been waiting to join for 18 years. Macedonia has been a candidate country for 18 years, although the issue of its accession has not been actively discussed.
When the year 2030 was named, it was probably a hopeful statement for Macedonia, Serbia, and Montenegro, however, later, the European Commission rejected this and noted that it is wrong to talk about the year 2030.
When a country waits 18 years for membership and you tell it that it may not be granted member status even after 7 years, it certainly gives grounds for pessimism, which is very bad. It would be better if the EU had a clearer plan, a time-specific one, in terms of the accession of specific countries.
The opposition is always speculating, but the most important thing for us is to move forward towards Europe, for this we need to implement relevant reforms, we need economic growth. We have tangible progress in all directions. This is the main thing for us and the answer to the speculations that I hear from the opposition”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
