A new airport will be built on the site of the Telavi airport. Such a statement made today the Prime Minister of Georgia.
“As you know, there was a historical airfield in Telavi, and we want to organize and build a new modern infrastructure, a new airport, and create a new Telavi airport in this place.
We will start designing and construction this year and we want the airport to receive its first passengers already in May-June 2024. About 25 million GEL has been allocated for the project, this project will cost 25-30 million GEL.
What is the main idea - we will renovate everything, the runway will be extended to 1,700 meters, modern navigation systems will be installed, in general the entire infrastructure will be renewed and new parking spaces, comfortable spaces for passengers will be created.
Telavi will have a modern airport. This means that not only our citizens, but also tourists will be able to fly comfortably during the day, move from Telavi to Batumi, Mestia, Ambrolauri, Kutaisi.
It is necessary to develop domestic flights and domestic aviation. For this purpose, we, the government, have been helping companies for several years and we will further expand this direction.
In total, there will be 6 modern airports in the country. Besides, the airport in Telavi will create even more attraction, it will be even more comfortable for tourists and our citizens, movement will be even faster”, - said Irakli Garibashvili.
