Irakli Garibashvili meets Olivér Várhelyi, European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with Olivér Várhelyi, European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement.

At the meeting held within the scope of the Prime Minister’s visit to Brussels, the parties discussed the process of Georgia’s accession to the EU.

Irakli Garibashvili briefed Olivér Várhelyi on the Government’s steps toward the implementation of the 12 recommendations.

At the meeting with Olivér Várhelyi, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of granting the candidate status to Georgia and expressed the hope that Georgia’s efforts toward implementing the reforms defined in the 12 priorities will be duly reflected in the European Commission’s report, and that the European Commission will issue a recommendation to grant the candidate status to Georgia.

The key directions of the cooperation agenda between Georgia and the EU and the reforms implemented by the country under the Association Agreement were also discussed at the meeting. Attention was paid to the ongoing global processes. Irakli Garibashvili and Olivér Várhelyi exchanged views on security challenges.

The Prime Minister thanked the European Commissioner for firmly supporting Georgia on the path to EU membership.
