Prime Minister of Georgia meets Kitack Lim, Secretary General of the UN International Maritime Organization

Prime Minister of Georgia meets Kitack Lim, Secretary General of the UN International Maritime Organization [IMO] today.

Positive cooperation between the Government of Georgia and UN IMO, as well as its support in the reform implementation process was highlighted at the meeting.

Significance of Georgia as a transit and logistic hub in the promotion of transport connection on the Eurasia continent was discussed by taking into consideration the geopolitical situation. As the Prime Minister stated at the meeting, Georgia has historically been a natural bridge between Europe and Asia and its strategic location enables the country to contribute to the revival of the Silk Road via the Middle Corridor assumed under the umbrella of Belt and Road Initiative.

As the Head of Government of Georgia noted, the country has been significantly investing in the infrastructure to make sure that sufficient capacity exists in the coming years. In this context, the Prime Minister of Georgia focused on the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum, which is an international platform created for high level and multilateral dialogue.

Kitack Lim, Secretary General of the UN IMO is visiting Georgia within the scope of the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum. He delivered a keynote speech at the Session dedicated to the Middle Corridor.

Meeting held today within the Government Administration was attended by Litiana Rasigatale attended, PA to the Secretary General of the UN IMO; Lika Lominadze, Liaison Officer of the UN IMO; Levan Davitashvili, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia; Alexi Akhvlediani, Director General of the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia.
