Nikoloz Samkharadze addressed his German colleagues with the appeal to use the term “territories occupied by Russia” in regard to Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region

The representatives of the Foreign Relations Committee, within the framework of the official visit to Germany, held a meeting with the Bundestag members, the rapporteurs on foreign and EU affairs - Knut Abraham (Christian-Democratic Union), and Christian Petry (Social-Democratic Party).

The parties deliberated on the importance of the EU candidate status for Georgia and the prospects for the membership negotiations.

The emphasis was placed on the significant role of Germany in the EU enlargement process. German MPs reiterated that Georgia is an integral part of new European security and expressed their commitment to enhancing the support of the EU and NATO integration of Georgia.

The Head of the Parliamentary Delegation, Nikoloz Samkharadze thanked the German side for the intact support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the EU and NATO integration of Georgia and underlined the significance of the aid allocated by the German Government for the sustainable development of our country since the very moment of restoration of independence.

At meetings, Georgian MPs submitted an appeal to mention Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region as the “territories occupied by Russia” in the official documents issued by Germany. Within the framework of the visit, Samkharadze held meetings with the members of the Germany-Georgia Friendship Group in the Bundestag and the leading German research organizations.

The Delegation, headed by N. Samkharadze, serves the official visit to Berlin. The Delegation is composed of the member of the Foreign Relations Committee, Grigol Vashadze and the Ambassador of Georgia to Germany, H.E. Levan Izoria.
