Speaker of the Parliament meets the US Department of State’s Coordinator on Global Anti-Corruption, Richard Nephew

The Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili held a meeting with the US Department of State’s Coordinator on Global Anti-Corruption, Richard Nephew and deliberated on the recent reforms undertaken in Georgia, including the countering corruption.

He overviewed the progress of Georgia on the EU integration path and introduced the international ratings of the country duly reflecting the steps taken by Georgia.

Nephew congratulated Georgia on receiving the EU candidate status and gave a positive assessment to the progress achieved by the country. As he highlighted, curbing corruption is one of the priorities of US national security, being a key direction to ensure maximal improvement of the impact of democracy.

He stressed that his visit aims at the facilitation of the dialogue and sharing experience in eliminating corruption.

The parties discussed the prospects for further cooperation in countering corruption and boosting transparency. Nephew expressed his commitment to further supporting Georgia on the hereof path.

The meeting was attended by the First Deputy Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Mariam Lashkhi.
