Maka Botchorishvili meets with the US Ambassador to Georgia, Robin Dunnigan

The Chair of the EU Integration Committee, Maka Botchorishvili held a meeting with the US Ambassador, Robin Dunnigan.

The parties deliberated on the Georgia-USA strategic partnership aspects, including the parliamentary cooperation prospects. The emphasis was placed on the progress of Georgia on the EU integration path and the significance of the EU candidate status for the country.

Botchorishvili informed the Ambassador about the governmental plan for the fulfillment of 9 recommendations. The parties touched upon the NATO integration of Georgia and underlined the importance of US support in the USA-Georgia relations. The discourse included the regional security milieu, the situation in the occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region and the threats deriving from Russia.

At the meeting, the parties overviewed the parliamentary agenda, domestic political situation, relevant processes and the upcoming Parliamentary Elections.

“It is principal to develop our relations in all directions to a great extent. We particularly value the merit that the USA contributed to our EU integration process. We aspire to further cooperate in various spheres, including in economic terms, enhancement of our bilateral relations and the support of our EU integration process”, - said Maka Botchorishvili.

The diplomat congratulated Georgia on receiving the EU candidate status and expressed her commitment to further supporting the reforms in the country.

“America wants to see Georgia as an EU member state. We aspire to do our best to support Georgia in this process. The EU Integration Committee and its Chairperson play a prominent role in this process. We discussed the ways to render support to the Committee in the fulfillment of 9 recommendations”, - added Dunnigan.
