Georgia’s strategic location, healthy governance, should become the subject of interest of the EU - Botchorishvili delivers speech before the European legislators

The Chair of the EU Integration Committee, Maka Botchorishvili and the Chair of the Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee, David Songulashvili participated in the Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Stability, Economic Coordination and Governance in the EU (SECG) held in the European Parliament within the presidency of the Council of European Union.

The agenda included the economic security and competitiveness in the EU, higher efficiency of a uniform market, budget management upon crisis, the future of the Economic and Monetary Union, facilitation of employment and the improvement of social investments, as well as the rights of the employees and addressing the “brain drain”.

“Georgia has an ambition to be one of the success models within the EU enlargement policy despite the acute geopolitical challenges in the region. Georgia has achieved significant progress for the last decade in undertaking the structural reforms in the spheres of public finance management, service development, countering corruption, facilitation of competition, improvement of energy security and the intensification of the transit potential”, - said Botchorishvili.

She dwelt on the commitment of Georgia to further actively striving to maintain the positive economic growth index within the cooperation with the EU.

“Georgia aspires to intensify its transit function, be a reliable partner for the EU including in energy security and clean energy provision terms. The effective utilization of new geopolitical advantages that Georgia offers to the EU requires a higher interest of the EU in the strategic location, healthy governance and attractive investment milieu of our country”, - she stated.

The Conference, hosted by the EU president country – Belgium – was held on February 12-13 in Brussels and was attended by MPs from the EU member and candidate states and the representatives of the EU institutions. The President of the European Council, Charles Michel and the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis addressed the attendees.
