The Head of the Georgian Dream in the Parliament highlighted the ruling party’s “principled position” of “protecting future generations from harmful effects” he said came from “LGBT propaganda and not protection of rights”. As Mamuka Mdinaradze added, protection of rights and “propaganda” should be distinguished from each other.
“Our principled position is to protect our future generation from the harmful effects of the propaganda of this topic, not from the protection of rights. The protection of rights is an issue that is simply used to support their propaganda. Therefore, we must distinguish between rights and propaganda.
It’s a simple story - protecting the rights of all people, regardless of any differences, is our principled task, while propaganda is an unacceptable thing that has acquired a scale that it needs to be prevented. We must combat this unhealthy propaganda with healthy propaganda. It involves working on legislation. It is already the second day that we voiced this and we cannot get a principled position from our opponents, whether we need to oppose this harmful propaganda or not.
We mainly focus on the harmful consequences of LGBT propaganda and we are not going to go deep into other issues. We oppose the propaganda, not the representatives of this community. We will protect them”, - said Mamuka Mdinaradze.
