The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament said that “seeing the wanted former officials of the United National Movement Government in the hallways of the institutions in Europe is disappointing.
Shalva Papuashvili highlighted Zurab Adeishvili’s presence in Strasbourg or Brussels for meetings a few months prior as a troubling example.
“The fact that individuals like Adeishvili, who have perpetuated violence and corruption, are welcomed in esteemed institutions like the German Parliament alongside high-ranking officials, raises serious questions about the integrity of European institutions and their commitment to justice”, - said the Speaker.
In his remarks, Papuashvili noted that when Adeishvili was sitting next to the General Prosecutor of Ukraine Andriy Kostin in the chamber of the German Parliament, “such facts contribute to inciting anti-European sentiments” in the Georgian public.
“When a Georgian citizen sees that a person [Adeishvili], who created a system of torture in prisons, created a system of business racketeering, a symbol of violence, is a welcome guest in the German Parliament, it is sad. Hope, that there would be explanations regarding these encounters”, - added the Speaker.
