MEPs free to express their views - EU Ambassador on the EP resolution

Members of the European Parliament have freedom of expression of their views. Such a statement made the EU Ambassador to Georgia, while talking about the European Parliament’s resolution, which speaks about the release of Mikheil Saakashvili.

“They are responsible to their voters. The European Parliament is one of the institutions of the European Union, and we respect their freedom of expression and freedom of expression of their views. As for the position of the EU, our leaders, including the commissioners, have already expressed their opinion.

We are monitoring the health condition of former President Saakashvili very carefully and we call on the Georgian authorities to protect all his rights as a prisoner and a defendant in court, and of course we are at the full disposal of Georgia and the authorities if they want the EU to be involved in any way. So, what happened in the European Parliament is the initiative of the European Parliament. If you ask me for my personal opinion, I will keep my personal opinion to myself”, - said Paweł Herczyński.
