Zurab Adeishvili’s visit to Brussels is an attack on European values, including the principle of the rule of law. Such a statement made today the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, while commenting the visit of former Minister of Justice of Georgia, Zurab Adeishvili, to the European Union and Germany.
“Regarding our statements, it was very important for us to respond to the visit that was made both to Brussels and Berlin. Of course, it is unacceptable for us that criminals enjoy free movement across Europe and that criminals, people exposed to the most serious crimes, can be seen in Brussels and Berlin. It was necessary to react to this.
We remind you that Zurab Adeishvili has been convicted of more than one crime. In addition, he has been charged with 2 additional crimes. These are the most serious crimes related to, for example, business racketeering, raiding television stations, torturing people, brutal violence against people, these are the most serious crimes. When such a person is part of the delegation in Brussels, Berlin, it is categorically unacceptable for us.
Of course, such facts have a negative impact on the mood of the public towards the European bureaucracy. The Georgian society must believe that the European bureaucracy is faithful to principles and ideals, such as the rule of law, etc.
Therefore, it is extremely important for us to respond to this fact. There will be appropriate communication with both EU and German authorities to properly clarify this issue.
As for the statement related to Adeishvili’s visit to Brussels, I think that his visit to Brussels is an attack on European values, including the principle of the rule of law. Therefore, we expressed the position that we had to express”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
