Opposition MPs have no genuine interest in Georgia having support on international platforms, Georgia’s EU integration - Botchorishvili

The resolution on the European Perspective of Georgia and Ukraine failed to be initiated at the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly because of the opposition representatives from Georgia and the members of the Ukrainian delegation refusing to support it. Such a statement made the Chairperson of the Georgian Parliamentary European Integration Committee.

“The Georgia Dream took the initiative to adopt a resolution on the European perspective of Georgia and Ukraine, which would support the accession of Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova to the EU. The Moldovan delegation supported the resolution, but the Ukrainian politicians and Georgian opposition refused to sign it, preventing the process from moving forward.

Georgian opposition MPs have no genuine interest in Georgia having support on international platforms, Georgia’s EU integration. When allowed to use any platform or format, they are always ready to use them to harm Georgia’s interests.

Initiation of the resolution requires 10 signatures. The GD has 4 MPs in the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, while the opposition is represented by Giorgi Vashadze, Giorgi Botkoveli, Ani Tsitlidze and Tamar Kordzaia.

We have urged the opposition to sign the resolution text several times, but they showed no interest to be its co-sponsors.

During these final meetings of this convocation parliament, we were able to demonstrate that our interests were protected through cooperation between the European and Georgian Parliaments”, - said Maka Botchorishvili.
