Constitutional amendments on draft law “On Family Values and Protection of Minors” registered at today’s session of the Bureau

Constitutional amendments on draft law “On Family Values and Protection of Minors” registered at today’s session of the Bureau. The Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia called on the parliamentary factions, political groups to nominate one representative to be included in the commission for the universal public review of constitutional amendments “against LGBT propaganda”.

“This draft will be submitted to the Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules to verify the authenticity of signatures and also to prepare a draft resolution on the creation of a universal public review commission.

I want to take this opportunity to appeal to all factions and political groups with the following proposal to nominate one representative to the commission of universal public review of constitutional amendments. In general, according to the Rules of Procedures, the composition should be as much as possible so that half is from the majority and half is from the opposition. If there is not enough representation from the opposition, this balance may not be maintained. We have had such cases.

I appeal to the opposition to use the opportunity to engage in discussion, it is an important issue for society. The task of this commission is to organize meetings with the public, including in the regions, and introduce this bill to the public, listen to their opinion, what they think, whether this or that issue should be regulated by the constitutional law and how it should be regulated. This is the main heart of democracy, when people have the opportunity to tell us their opinions.

The Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules has a maximum of a week to verify the signatures and prepare a draft resolution, which we will consider in the next session week. With this resolution, we will create a public review commission, which will then have a month to hold these meetings. Finally, the commission will report to the Parliament what is the outcome of the discussions. The legislature will consider the draft e constitutional law in committees and in the format of the plenary session”, - explained Shalva Papuashvili.
