I welcome the offer of the Prime Minister of Georgia to the ambassadors of the partner countries regarding the public discussion of the draft law “On the Transparency of Foreign Influence”, writes the Chairman of the Parliament on his Facebook page.
“Publicity is the basis of democracy. Accordingly, I welcome the offer of the Prime Minister of Georgia to the ambassadors of the partner countries regarding the public discussion of the draft law “On the Transparency of Foreign Influence”.
It is a strange event for diplomatic activity when foreign diplomats consider themselves to be direct participants in the ongoing political debates in Georgia. As a rule, at such times, it is impossible for external participants to maintain objective assessments in heated political debates, which creates risks of reputational damage. We have always taken such issues with great responsibility and tried our best to exchange ideas in working formats.
However, due to the activity of diplomats in political processes, we are ready to join the public discussion offered by the Prime Minister, in order to once again provide the public with a comprehensive answer to any questions that exist around this draft law. We are ready, together with the Prime Minister, to listen to well-founded arguments from our friends, which in itself will greatly benefit the law-making process.
We believe that the friends of our country will act in the best interests of Georgia and will responsibly deal with the issues of security and sovereignty of the country.
It should be noted here that the discussion of the draft law “On Transparency of Foreign Influence” in the Parliament will take place in a transparent, inclusive and argumentative manner”, - writes Shalva Papuashvili.
