I am absolutely sure that Josep Borrell has not read this bill. Such a statement made today the Speaker of the Parliament.
“When we talk about the transparency law, we should know that it is a law based on the interest of the Georgian people. This may not be in the interests of others, especially those whose finances come to Georgia in a non-transparent manner, and unfortunately, EU funding in Georgia is also non-transparent. We know examples, such as the “European Democracy Fund”", which hides its own funding in Georgia, which is precisely the opposite of European values. Unfortunately, for a year, I tried to convince the representatives of the EU themselves, by communicating with various structures of the EU, that secretly financing radical groups and political parties in Georgia, deviating from European values, is a wrong behavior.
Unfortunately, I could not, that’s why we have to pass the law. I cannot answer for others, but the problem is as follows. In fact, there is an attempt to ban discussion, which is anti-European behaviour. There is an attempt to suppress common sense, which is anti-European behavior. What we are doing all this time is offering content and seeing the behavior of the radical opposition, what is it doing? They want to divide society without this information. I am sure that Josep Borrell has not read this draft law, I am absolutely sure”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.
