Yesterday, we saw an attack on the Georgian police by one of the members of the European Parliament, I mean Mr. Auštrevičius, this MEP, at the same time, is a member of the Lithuanian ruling party - it would be good if the Embassy of Lithuania makes an explanation on this issue. Such a statement made the Chairman of the Parliament, while commenting the words of MEP Petras Auštrevičius, who delivered a speech at the debate in the European Parliament regarding the drat law “On Transparency of Foreign Influence”.
"Auštrevičius is, among others, a representative of the Lithuanian ruling party, therefore, it would be good if we hear the relevant explanation from the Lithuanian Embassy, about what this attack on the Georgian police means. At the same time, we remember, unfortunately, the statement made by the Lithuanian Ambassador himself in 2021, when Nika Melia was arrested.
Then he called the police action violent, which was later confirmed by the Strasbourg court as a legal measure and the court said that the statement of the then Lithuanian Ambassador did not correspond to the truth.
So there are tendencies of attacks on the Georgian police, unfortunately, and it would be good if the Lithuanian Embassy makes a clarification on this matter, because it is a political, ideological support to those who threw “Molotov cocktails” last March, and we saw that these "Molotov cocktails” were romanticized with the financing of the European Endowment for Democracy and managed by the same MEPs”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.
