Mikheil Saakashvili’s health condition was not really a threat to his life, which was confirmed by the Strasbourg court on May 11, 2023, when the convicted former president was refused to be transferred to Poland for treatment. Such a statement made today the Minister of Justice.
“We would like to inform you that on April 25, 2024, the European Court of Human Rights sent a message to the Ministry of Justice, which is accompanied by a letter from the convicted [Mikheil] Saakashvili regarding the rejection of his appeal by the Strasbourg Court.
In a letter dated April 18, Saakashvili’s lawyer notes that currently former president’s health condition is not life-threatening. The European Court asked the Ministry of Justice to comment before May 10, if any.
We sent a corresponding reply today, in which we note that his health condition was not really a threat to his life, which was confirmed by the Strasbourg court itself on May 11, 2023, when the convicted Saakashvili was refused to be transferred to Poland, in particular, to a Warsaw clinic for treatment. Also, we asked the European Court of Human Rights to inform us of the fact of excluding the case from the list of pending cases”, - said Rati Bregadze.
