The Public Defender of Georgia and representatives of the Office are monitoring the events developed in the vicinity of the Parliament.
“Unfortunately, we have again observed cases of alleged ill-treatment of citizens by the police.
The Public Defender once again calls on the Ministry of Internal Affairs to act within the framework of legislation and once again explains that the use of force must be necessary and proportionate, must be aimed at carrying out a specific legal measure, and in no case should it turn into targeted violence/retaliation against citizens.
The Public Defender also calls on the Special Investigation Service to respond immediately to the above facts; to conduct the ongoing investigations in the shortest possible time frame, so as not to create a feeling of impunity, which may incite individual police officers to further illegal actions”, - reads the statement of the Public Defender of Georgia.
