German Ambassador quoted Chancellor Olaf Scholz without context, which later became the basis of misinformation about Georgia - Papuashvili

The German Ambassador quoted Chancellor Olaf Scholz without context, which later became the basis of misinformation, the opposition media reported it as the Chancellor’s words regarding Georgia, which are absolute lies and misinformation. Such a statement made today the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament.

“It is very sad. The fact is that there was a statement by the German Chancellor, which was related to the narrow German context, the murder of a specific person, one of the German politicians, five years ago, and five years later, the address of the German Chancellor was dedicated to this.

The address was about the current situation in Germany, which is also related to violence. More than 60,000 politically motivated crimes were committed in Germany last year, and this speaks to the challenges and problems Germany faces in this regard.

Unfortunately, the German Ambassador took this quote out of context, which then became the basis for disinformation, and we saw that the opposition media covered it as the Chancellor’s words regarding Georgia, which is an absolute lie and disinformation. This was seen by the German Embassy, including the Ambassador, who was also mentioned in the information spread by the media, and I am very sorry that he did not react to this.

By his silence, he contributed to the spread of disinformation about Georgia, which, of course, is against the spirit of the nine points, where the expectation is that disinformation should be limited.

The quote of the Chancellor was spread in a manipulative way by the Ambassador, because it was taken out of context and the context was not mentioned. However, I think the Embassy saw that this manipulative quote was then misrepresented by the opposition media and in effect created a topic out of nothing.

The German Embassy has zero reaction to this, which is a pity, because it promotes misinformation, and in this case it was a source of misinformation, which was spread about Georgia.

Public information is public information, when misinformation is spread, it is not enough to deny it behind closed doors or by whispering in the ear, if this misinformation was spread and its source was the German Ambassador’s post, it is important to publicly state this”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.
