The Prime Minister of Georgia highlighted the importance of the energy sector for the country in his annual report to the Parliament. According to Irakli Kobakhidze, the Government had a “strategic goal” to ensure national energy production would exceed consumption by 2030.
“Energy is a particularly important direction - we have a strategic goal of national production in this area exceeding consumption by 2030, and everything is being done to achieve this goal.
284 contracts had been signed for the construction of new power plants… 214 of the projects were hydropower plants, 26 wind power plants and 44 are solar facilities. We are confident that all relevant projects will be successfully implemented.
The Government is actively working on the project of the Black Sea submarine electricity cable project for connecting energy grids of the South Caucasus and Europe. The feasibility study for the initiative would be completed in about a month”, - said the Head of the Government.
