Motorcycles and mopeds may be allowed to drive in bus lanes

Motorcycles and mopeds may be allowed to drive in bus lanes. Such a statement made today the Mayor of Tbilisi.

“We studied the best practices of several countries and found that motorcycles and mopeds are allowed to drive in bus lanes, subject to the relevant regulations. This is the practice in Great Britain, different cities of Spain, etc. One of the main goals of allowing motorcycles and mopeds to travel in bus lanes is to improve road safety. This is facilitated by the fact that the movement of motorcycles and mopeds in the bus lane makes it easier for other road users to see them, which dramatically reduces traffic accidents. We have already prepared an appropriate legislative package, which provides for the movement of motorcycles and mopeds (except for three-wheelmopeds) in bus lanes only in cases determined by the Tbilisi City Council and under appropriate conditions. We will submit this draft law to the Parliament of Georgia and we have great hope that we will have support.

After the approval of the legislative initiative by the Parliament, the relevant rules and conditions will be presented to the Capital City Council on how, with what permission and restrictions, motorcycles and mopeds will be able to move in the bus lane”, - said Kakha Kaladze.
