Parliament overrides President’s veto on Election Code amendments

The Parliament of Georgia has overridden today [June] President’s veto on the amendments to the Election Code, originally passed on May 30, reinstating the law in its original form.

The amendments to the Georgian Election Code, passed on May 30 with 80 votes, were vetoed by Salome Zourabichvili on June 13.

The revised law includes a provision stating that if a decision by the Central Election Commission (CEC), requiring at least two-thirds support from its full membership, fails to pass in a vote during a session, it will be re-voted upon during the same session. In this scenario, the decision will be deemed adopted if it garners a majority of votes from the entire CEC membership.
