Prime Minister of Georgia meets NDI Georgia office Director and NDI Observation Mission Members

Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia met Alan Gillam, Director of the National Democratic Institute (NDI) Office in Georgia and members of the NDI Observation Mission today.

Main topics discussed at the meeting were the general elections scheduled this year and the pre-election environment witnessed in the country. Attention was paid to the new legal framework for elections. The Prime Minister of Georgia noted that over 90 percent of voters will be registered and vote electronically for the first time in the history of the country. This method will be used for counting the results of voting as well. Thus, faults in the process of election will be brought down to its minimum, thereby ensuring the high level of the process.

Discussion was also held on the role of international observation missions and political stance in the country.

Irakli Kobakhidze noted that free and fair elections will be ensured this time again, along with a maximum transparency of the election process. Both short- and long-term missions are therefore invited from reputable international organizations to observe the elections.

The Head of Government of Georgia once again confirmed the readiness of the authorities to greatly facilitate the reduction of political polarization in the country to make sure that the election campaign flows in a peaceful setting.
