King Erekle II monument to be erected at Kakheti highway - Prime Minister

Georgian Prime Minister announced a decision to erect a monument to Erekle II [King of Kakheti in 1744-1762 and of Kartli and Kakheti kingdom in 1762-1798].

“It is our duty to properly honor Georgian history and all those heroes who made significant contributions to our country and played a crucial role in preserving Georgia’s national and religious identity. Our heroic King Erekle II is particularly notable in this respect. His sacrifice and wisdom preserved Georgia’s Christian identity, which is an inseparable part of our European identity.

To honor our national hero, Erekle II, we have decided to erect a statue of him on the Kakheti Highway, near the Ministry of Internal Affairs HQ, where the City Hall is carrying out a park rehabilitation project. The statue will be based on an initial design by Merab Merabishvili”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
