Vakhtang Golandzia, a member of the so-called parliament of occupied Abkhazia, has died after sustaining injuries in a shooting near the building.

According to the local media, both Golandzia and his fellow MP Kan Kvarchia were injured in the shooting and required intensive care.

As Robert Kiut, so-called acting Minister of Internal Affairs said, the suspect has been identified as so-called MP Adgur Kharazia, who fled the scene following the incident.

The shooting occurred during a discussion concerning a bill to ban mining. A dispute erupted between Kharazia and Kvarchia.

Kharazia drew a firearm and shot Kvarchia. Golandzia, who attempted to intervene to assist his colleagues, was fatally wounded in the altercation.
