Second exits will be constructed at the "Marjanishvili" and "Akhmeteli Theater" metro stations

With the involvement and support of the Asian Development Bank, a project is underway to construct second exits at Marjanishvili and Akhmeteli Theatre Metro Stations. Such a statement made today the Mayor of Tbilisi.

"At present, the planning of these additional exits is in the design stage, being prepared in accordance with the concept developed with the support of the Asian Development Bank. The design phase will be completed by early 2026, after which a tender will be announced for the commencement of construction works.

The construction of additional exits aims to ease congestion at the stations and ensure the safe and uninterrupted movement of passengers. The project will improve pedestrian accessibility, and the metro stations will become focal points for surrounding districts. They will be easier to access, pedestrian safety will be enhanced, and passengers will be able to enter and exit the stations more quickly and comfortably.

As a result of reducing congestion, flow-related delays will also decrease, both in adjacent neighborhoods and around the stations, including at public transport stops. In addition, to ensure safe and comfortable pedestrian movement and inclusive accessibility, internal and external access will be improved at several metro stations in Tbilisi.

We recall that during peak hours, access to Akhmeteli Theatre Station was problematic due to passenger numbers. Later, we implemented a certain project which resolved this issue, but at that time we also announced that carrying out a project to construct new entrances and exits would be important.

I would like to thank the Asian Development Bank for its support and cooperation. Implementing works of this type is of great importance to us", - said Kakha Kaladze.
