The Roads Department of the Ministry of Infrastructure has completed the rehabilitation works of the 16 km (km17-km33) section of the Kakaskhidi-Zekari road.
One section of the road passes through a uninhabited forest zone, while the other part passes through an alpine zone. The road is located at an average altitude of 1700-2100 m above sea level.
The rehabilitation project envisaged the complete rehabilitation of the road. In particular, asphalt-concrete pavement was laid, water pipes and retaining walls were installed. Also, road signs were installed and horizontal marking of the road was carried out. The mentioned section is part of the Baghdati - Abastumani road.
The rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Baghdati - Abastumani road will significantly increase the level of service and safety, reduce travel distance and time (approximately 90-120 minutes) from the central part of Georgia to the Turkish border. The reconstruction of the road will revitalize the region and increase economic activity. The works were financed from the state budget and its total cost is up to GEL 65 million.
