Tbilisi`s 2026 budget is being increased and will total GEL 2,506,978,300, said the Mayor of Tbilisi at today`s municipal government meeting.

"This year, the capital has an unprecedented budget with which we have planned to implement numerous significant projects. However, we said from the outset that the budget would continue to grow. During the current month, an amendment has already been made to the relevant resolution of the Tbilisi City Council, adding last year`s surplus of 17 million lari to the capital`s approved 2026 budget. Now, another amendment is being made to the City Council`s resolution of December 23, 2025, "On Approving Tbilisi Municipality`s 2026 Budget", specifically taking into account the transitional surplus existing in the municipality`s budget accounts as of January 1, 2026, revenues received in excess of income in 2025 totalling 273,860,100 lari, and expected projections for the current year.

According to this amendment, the section on grants indicates an increase of GEL 22,560,000 in other capital grants from the state budget. Consequently, under the proposed project, the overall budget will rise by 296,420,100 lari, bringing the total to GEL 2,506,978,300.

Taking into account this amendment, allocations have been redistributed to the following priorities: construction and rehabilitation of transport infrastructure – GEL 68,292,800; construction and operation of infrastructure facilities and reinforcement/replacement of emergency buildings – GEL 123,719,200; maintenance/improvement of environmental conditions – GEL 15,742,500; promotion of economic development – 349,000 lari; development of homeowners` associations – GEL 6,411,300; healthcare and social welfare – GEL 7,847,700; education – GEL 51,209,800; culture, sport and youth – GEL 18,182,400; public order and security – GEL 3,361,500; Tbilisi`s representative and executive bodies – GEL 1,303,900.

The ongoing projects will proceed as planned, including the comprehensive rehabilitation of Sulkhan Saba and Ingorokva Streets in the historic districts, as well as the renovation of the existing buildings in the area.

The proposed projects include the modernisation of 14 metro carriages – GEL 18 million; the commencement of rehabilitation works at the Nadzaladevi depot – GEL 5 million; the construction and rehabilitation of 4 nursery schools – GEL 11.4 million; the purchase of emergency houses situated within the cultural heritage protection zone – GEL 10 million; the rehabilitation of Kakabadze Brothers Street in the Mtatsminda district – GEL 4 million; and a lung screening programme – GEL 3 million.

Large infrastructure projects inevitably bring a certain degree of disruption, but all of these efforts are for the benefit of the city and its residents.
