The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged eleven individuals, including foreign citizens, with the illegal purchase and storage of large and especially large quantities of narcotic drugs, facilitation of their sale, and the illegal planting and cultivation of plants containing narcotic substances.

The investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that the defendants illegally purchased and stored large and especially large quantities of narcotic drugs – marijuana, methadone, cannabis, mephedrone, lysergide, cocaine and hashish. Some of the defendants priced large and especially large quantities of narcotic drugs “methadone” and “marijuana” for sale and placed them in various locations. Also, two defendants illegally planted and brought a particularly large quantity of cannabis containing narcotic substances.

The detainees were charged under Article 260, Part 2, “a” and “b” and Subparagraph “a” of Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (illegal purchase and storage of large and especially large quantities of narcotic drugs, by prior agreement by a group), Article 260 Quarta, Part 3, “a”, Part 5, “a”, “b” and Subparagraph “a” of Part 6 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (facilitation of illegal sale of large and especially large quantities of narcotic drugs, committed by prior agreement by a group), Article 265 Prima, Part 3, “a” (illegal planting and cultivation of plants containing narcotic substances in especially large quantities), which provides for up to twenty years or life imprisonment as a form and measure of punishment.

Based on the prosecutor’s motion, the court sentenced the defendants to imprisonment as a preventive measure.
